Lafayette’s Xhiir Burgess to miss season after ACL injury

Lafayette’s girls basketball team received some news no team wants to get ahead of the season. Standout senior Xhiir Burgess tore her ACL last week and will miss the year.
The injury occurred during second set of Lafayette’s Class II volleyball playoff match at Lake Cormorant last Thursday.
Burgess having to sit out her final season deals a blow to the Commodores. Head coach Shayne Linzy was returning all five starters from last season’s team that reached the semifinals back in March.
Last season Burgess averaged 10.7 points and 7.4 rebounds per game.
A decision has not been made in regards to who will fill Burgess’ spot in the starting lineup.
Lafayette opens the season on Nov. 6 against Shannon in the Hound Dog Classic in Tupelo.
