Born in Vaiden, Miss. on June 28, 1929, to the late Rev. William Obed Hunt and Beatrice Roach Hunt, Mrs. Cochran was the widow of Mr. Chester Duncan Cochran, II.  They married in the church her father pastored, Maples Memorial Methodist Church. She earned her BA in Education from the University of Memphis and taught first through sixth grades in Olive Branch for 25 years. After her retirement, she applied her education to start the kindergarten/pre-school daycare at First Baptist Church of Olive Branch and to focus on her role as a grandmother and community volunteer. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Olive Branch for 60 years where she was active in many areas.

Mrs. Cochran was an avid woodworker and golfer and founded the Ladies Golf Association at the Olive Branch Country Club.  Additionally, she was a founding member of the Olive Branch Literary Council and GED training program where she served as director for several years.  She and her husband loved traveling to golf tournaments and especially enjoyed cruises.

After the death of her husband, she moved to Oxford to be near her family.  Never idle, she quickly became a volunteer at Baptist Hospital, RSVP and city and community activities. She continued golfing in Oxford and was recognized as a “Legend of the Course” for the Ole Miss Golf Course in 2008.  Mrs. Cochran was a very busy lady all of her life and made the most of every day.  Most importantly, she loved her Lord, her family and her friends. She was preceded in death by a brother, Dr. Bernard Hunt and two sisters, Lee Hunt and Ophelia Hunt.
