ABC approved petition to allow bars to stay open later on Super Bowl
Oxonians planning to stay out to watch the Super Bowl this weekend will be able to, thanks to the the Alcohol Beverage Control.
The ABC approved the City of Oxford’s petition to keep bars open later on February 3, extending alcohol sale hours from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m., according to ABC spokesman Kathy Waterbury.
The Oxford Board of Aldermen approved the petition during the January 15 meeting, and the ABC approved it on the 17th.
The petition allows for the sale extension for on-premises establishments only, meaning liquor stores will not have any sale extensions.
According to Waterbury, it’s pretty common practice for a city to ask for an extension on a permanent basis. However, Oxford’s petition moved so quickly because it was only petitioning for a one-day extension day.
On-premises hours will return to their normal time – 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. – the next Sunday.
