Obituary – Earnest Dewitt Jones

Earnest Dewitt Jones, 86, passed away Thursday, Feb. 14, 2019, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi in Oxford. Visitation was Monday, Feb.18, 2019, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Coleman Funeral Home. A funeral service immediately followed at 1 p.m., also at Coleman Funeral Home. Interment was at the Garden of Memories. Bro. Jay Derryberry officiated. Coleman Funeral Home of Oxford is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Jones was born in Taylor, Mississippi. He spent most of his life farming. Mr. Jones also served as a minister at a small-town church in Arkansas for a short period of time. He was a fan of the outdoors and enjoyed fishing when he had the chance. Mr. Jones also served our country in the United States Army Corp.

Mr. Jones is survived by two sons, Calvin Earnest Jones of Pontotoc, Mississippi, and Ricky Kitchens of Oxford, Mississippi; three brothers, Larry Jones of Olive Branch, Mississippi, Ed (Jeannette Smith) Jones of Abbeville, Mississippi, and Roy Jones of Oxford; one sister, Peggy Burks of Oxford; and a host of nieces and nephews.

In honor of Mr. Earnest Dewitt Jones’ service to our country, the flag of the United States Army will be flown at Coleman Funeral Home.
