Oxford Track Dominates Class 6A, Region 2 Championships

Charger track and field hosted the 2019 Class 6A, Region 2 championships on Tuesday afternoon, leading athletes from Tupelo, South Panola and Columbus. Both the Oxford boys and girls walked away victorious on Tuesday.

The Oxford boys were dominant on the track at Oxford Middle School Tuesday. Of the 18 total events, they took gold in 13. When the final scores were tallied, the boys had scored a whopping 152 of the 271 possible points. Tupelo finished second with 71.

Distance events were especially fruitful for the boys. Winning the 800-meter, the 1600-meter and the 3200-meter, Oxford swept the top three spots on the podium in both the 1600 and 3200-meter runs.

The Lady Chargers had a bit more of a run with Tupelo late, but were able to pull away for the Region 2 championship belt. Beating Tupelo 86-70, the girls won three of the last four events on the track to pull away.

Like one the boys’ side, the Lady Chargers were also quite fruitful in distance events. The girls swept the podium on the 800-meter run, took first and third on the 1600-meter and then took second and third in the 3200-meter.
