A man posing as an agent of the Internal Revenue Service attempted to scam a Lafayette County resident, according to the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Department.
The resident reported to the Sheriff’s office that a male came to their residence posing as an IRS agent. The man posing as the agent told the resident there was a warrant out for their arrest but if they gave the impersonator money, the IRS would drop all charges. The incident occurred on Tuesday.
The Sheriff’s office released a description of the suspect on Wednesday. A witness described him as a white male with stocky build, 5-foot-6 to 5-foot-8 inches in height, early 40s with brown hair. The witness also said the suspect drove a dark gray compact car.
The Sheriff’s Department advises people if a person comes to their door and does not have proper identification to call their local authorities. They also warn residents to be mindful of scams and if anyone has any information regarding the incident that could be useful to contact the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office.
