Ole Miss will host the Oxford Regional

HOOVER, Ala – After finishing the year losing six of seven, many thought the Rebels’ odds of hosting a regional were impossible. Turns out, their 4-2 run in the SEC Tournament and a trip to the championship game did enough to swing the tables.
Ole Miss will host a regional in Oxford.
Announced less than an hour following the conclusion of the 11-10 loss to the Commodores, the NCAA Tournament is coming back to Swayze Field.
The case for Ole Miss to host was simple – it goes beyond their RPI, which was No. 22 as the Rebels entered the day. Even before playing Vanderbilt on Sunday, Ole Miss played more games against the RPI top-50 than any other team in the nation.
Ole Miss went 20-20 in games against top-50 teams and 12-15 against top-25 teams.
In their run to the SEC Tournament finals, Ole Miss beat Georgia (No. 3 in RPI) and Arkansas (No. 7). The selection committee proved the game against Vanderbilt didn’t determine the outcome. Ole Miss had done enough.
The entire bracket will be released Monday at 11 a.m., but Ole Miss got everything they asked for – a host seed.
Other SEC schools hosting are Vanderbilt, Georgia, Mississippi State, Arkansas, and LSU.
