Oxford School District to honor Veteran alumni

This Veteran’s Day, the Oxford School District is taking a different approach to honoring those who served their country.
On Nov. 11, OSD will begin its Veteran’s Day celebration by unveiling the Veterans Roll Call. The display is a special tribute to graduates of Oxford High School, Oxford Training School, Central High School and University High School who served in the United States Armed Forces.
A board will be displayed at Oxford High School with the names of veterans who are alumni of OSD.
The idea first came about last spring, when the district announced it was seeking out alumni who could tell their success stories.
“The Veterans’ Wall serves as a token of appreciation for those graduates who have fulfilled the highest and most honorable form of active citizenship – a visual representation of one of the Portrait of a Graduate traits,” OSD superintendent Brian Harvey said in a statement to the EAGLE. “We are asking for everyone to submit veterans’ names for this special plaque.”
The school district is asking members of the Oxford community to submit veterans’ names, living or deceased, on behalf of themselves, a family member or a friend who graduated from any of the OSD high schools, past or present.
To submit a name, visit https://www.oxfordsd.org/osd and click on ‘Oxford School District Seeking to Honor Veterans’ to fill out a form.
