The holiday season is in full swing, which means the annual Toys for Tots toy drive has begun, and one City organization is doing their part to serve local children.
Oxford University Transit is participating in this year’s national drive held by the Marine Corps Reserve and will have a collection box at their office through Dec. 19.
Along with having a collection box at its central office, OUT will be at several different locations in Oxford throughout the holiday season.
On Nov. 23, they will be at Walmart on Jackson Avenue from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. OUT will also be participating in the Oxford Community Market’s Holly Jolly Holiday Market on Dec. 3 and 17 from 3 to 6 p.m.
“Please join us in helping make the children in our community have a wonderful Christmas Day,” OUT general manager Donna Zampella said in a statement.
The toys must be in their original packaging and unwrapped. Examples of acceptable items include: sporting equipment, books, backpacks, cosmetics, purses, watch, wallet gift sets, bath gift sets, board games and more.
The ages eligible for Toys for Tots range from 0 to 16-years-old.
Collection boxes can also be found at the Oxford Police Department and the RSVP office. Zampella said they will also come pick up toys people have purchased, but are unable to get to the collection boxes, by calling 662-234-3540.
