Oxford Police investigating fatal wreck
The cause of a fatal one-car wreck that occurred early Monday morning is still under investigation, according to the Oxford Police Department.
At approximately 3 a.m., officers responded to the intersection of South Lamar Boulevard and Johnson Avenue to a report of a vehicle that traveled across traffic and hit a tree head-on. When officers arrived at the scene, they found the driver, Benjamin Ferguson, 42 of Ashland, trapped inside the vehicle.
The Oxford Fire Department arrived and was able to remove Ferguson from the vehicle. Despite life-saving measures taken by medical personnel on scene, Ferguson succumbed to injuries sustained in the wreck at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi.
