Obituary – Thomas “Tom” Joe Smith

Thomas “Tom” Joe Smith, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2020, in Starkville, Miss. A visitation will be held on Thursday, Jan. 16, 2020, from 10:30 a.m.

to 12 p.m. at St. Andrews United Methodist Church (431 N 16th Street, Oxford, MS 38655). A memorial service will immediately follow from 12 p.m. to 1p.m., also at St. Andrews United Methodist Church.

 

Mr. Smith loved to be around people and one of his goals was to make everyone smile. Mr. Smith enjoyed joking around with others. One of Mr. Smith’s favorite pastimes was traveling around to see God’s work displayed in the countryside. Mr. Smith was an avid lover of sports. He coached little league baseball and youth football. In Mr. Smith’s spare time, he loved to golf and attend any kind of sporting events. Mr. Smith was one of Ole Miss’s biggest fans.

 

Mr. Smith is survived by his wife, Carol Smith, of Oxford; one son, Chad (Sandra) Smith, of Oxford; one daughter, Tammy Lott, of Elkhart, Ind.; five grandsons, Trent Huddleston and Kurt Lott, of Indiana, Kyle Lott, of Michigan, Waller Smith and Gustave “Gus” Smith, of Oxford; one granddaughter, Murphy Smith, of Oxford; two great-granddaughters, Allie Huddleston and Lilliane Huddleston, both of Missouri; and one brother, Larry Smith, of Las Vegas, Nev.

 

Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his father, Harry Russell Smith; his mother, Roberta Stone Smith; one brother, Jerry Smith; and one granddaughter, Chelsea Huddleston.
