Mississippi announces 94 new COVID-19 cases; Lafayette’s total now at 11

After hitting triple-digits for COVID-19 cases in a single day on Wednesday, Mississippi nearly hit it again on Thursday.
The State Department of Health announced there were 94 new cases as of 6 p.m. on Thursday, and two more COVID-19 related deaths. The statewide total for cases is now at 576 out of 3,139 tested by the MSDH and eight deaths.
Two new deaths were reported on Thursday, in Tippah County and Harrison County.
Lafayette County had a new case confirmed, bringing its total to 11 after not receiving a new case on Wednesday. After announcing its first cases yesterday, Yalobusha County still sits at three cases. Neighboring counties Panola and Pontotoc have four cases each.
DeSoto County continues to lead the state, receiving 14 new cases on Thursday to raise its total to 63. Hinds County picked up seven new cases to bring its total to 50.
The United States overtook China and Italy with the most confirmed cases on Thursday, with just over 86,000. Those three countries are the only ones with more than 80,000 confirmed cases in the world.
