Lafayette County’s long-term care facilities could soon be rid of COVID-19.
During Monday’s Board of Supervisors meeting, Lafayette County emergency management director Steve Quarles provided an update on the COVID-19 crisis in the County, including the cases at North Mississippi Regional Center and Oxford Health and Rehab.
The active cases at both of the LTC facilities are subsiding among the clients and patients, and may even be eradicated this week. Quarles told the Board that if Oxford’s NMRC campus did not have a new COVID-19 case reported as of 2 p.m. on Monday, all active cases will have expired past their estimated two-week duration.
“They have not had any new cases in two weeks, so if they don’t have any more positive cases by 2 p.m. today they will roll off the (state’s) list of long-term care facilities with active cases,” Quarles told the Board on Monday.
There were 35 reported positive cases at NMRC between clients and staff. There was one death at NMRC but Quarles told the Board the person lived in a neighboring county.
Two weeks ago, one staff member at Oxford Health and Rehab tested positive for the novel coronavirus. The Mississippi National Guard and Mississippi State Department of Health administered COVID-19 tests last week, where one staff member tested positive, but was asymptomatic. Quarles said none of the residents had tested positive.
Lafayette County did not report any new cases on Monday, keeping its totals to 107 cases, three deaths and 37 LTC cases. As of Sunday, the Lafayette County had 12 active cases according to Quarles.
