Samuel Hardy Farris, Jr., 87, passed from this life into the arms of his Savior on Tuesday, June 30, 2020, in Oxford. A family funeral service was held Friday, July 3, 2020, at 3 p.m. in the Chapel of Waller Funeral Home with The Reverend Doctor Robert Allen officiating. Internment took place immediately after the service at Oxford Memorial Cemetery with Robert B. Farris, Jr. officiating.
Born in Memphis, Tenn., to the late Samuel Hardy Farris, Sr. and Floy Barrow Farris of Clarksdale, Mr. Farris was a retired bank president and financial advisor. He received his Bachelor Degree and Masters of Business Administration from Mississippi State University. However, Hardy always considered himself to be an Ole Miss Rebel, as he lived and worked in Oxford the majority of his life and saw both children and all five grandchildren graduate from the University of Mississippi.
Hardy was an officer in the United States Army, serving in the Army Security Agency stationed in Asmara, Ethiopia, with his bride from Oxford, Martha Faye Nicholas Farris. Mr. Farris was a Loan Officer for the Bank of Clarksdale, President of both the Bank of Batesville, and The Bank of Oxford when they were owned and operated as the United Southern Bank. He retired from the bank shortly after they were purchased and operated as Regions Bank on the Square in Oxford and became a financial advisor with Edward Jones. Hardy was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Oxford where he served as a deacon and Sunday School teacher. He was an active member of the Rotary Club in both Clarksdale and Oxford.
