Mrs. Rebecca Moore “Becky” Rooker, 75, died Wednesday, November 22, 2023, at University of Alabama Hospital in Birmingham, AL. The funeral was Tuesday, November 28, 2023, at 1:00 P.M. at North Oxford Baptist Church with Rev. Chris Williams officiating. Visitation was held prior to the service beginning at 11:30 A.M. at the church. Burial followed the service in North Oxford Baptist Church Cemetery.
Becky was born on July 9, 1948, in Clarksdale, MS, to the late Wallace and Helen Moore. A well-known and loved member of the Oxford community, she worked as an administrative assistant in the Oxford School District Superintendent’s office for over 20 years. Becky was a member of North Oxford Baptist Church, where she nurtured her love for the Lord and continuously gave back to her church. On Sundays, you could hear her beautiful voice in the choir, singing amongst her dear friends, or find her teaching her beloved Sunday School classes. Whether it was the 3 & 4 year old class, or the high school senior girls, Becky had a special ability to connect with any age group, with a beautiful gift for sharing her faith with them. She enjoyed learning and fellowshipping with other ladies at her weekly Explorers Bible Study, and looked forward to volunteering each year for Vacation Bible School. Her love for connecting with people never stopped at the church doors, as she spent many hours volunteering at Baptist Memorial Hospital, visiting with the patients. With a kind and loving spirit, Becky had a heart for shelter dogs, especially those with disabilities, and always looked for ways to help. Although she filled her life with so much joy, nothing could compare to the love and devotion she held for her family. Becky was an amazing grandmother, who loved trips to Nashville to visit her grandchildren, always making each and every moment with them count. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lee Rooker.
Becky is survived by her daughter, Leigh Ann Nail and her husband, Nick, of Nashville, TN; step-daughter, Christy Rooker Boykin; sisters, Susanne McLendon and her husband, Rev. Jimmy McLendon, of Glen Allan, MS and Joanne Thompson and her husband, Terry, of Madison, MS; brothers, Clay Moore and his wife, Deborah, of Senatobia, MS and Wallace Reed Moore, Jr. and his wife, Sherry, of Jonesboro, AR; and her dear grandchildren, Nicklaus and Mary Wallace.
