Lafayette High soccer teams head to state championship matches

Both Lafayette High soccer teams will face Florence in MHSAA Class 5A state championship title matches after winning their games Tuesday night.
The Lafayette girls, with 20 wins and five losses on the season, defeated Pontotoc 2-0 at William L. Buford Stadium to advance. Florence (20-4-1) shutout South Jones 5-0 to move to the finals.
The Lafayette boys (17-7-1) won 3-1 at New Hope to advance. Florence (15-8-2) won 2-1 over Stone County.
The championship matches will be played at Germantown High School on Saturday. The girls match begins at noon with the boys following at 2 p.m.
