April garden lecture to focus on drought conditions

Lafayette County Master Gardeners is hosting its annual Spring Lecture Series again this year at the Lafayette County and Oxford Public Library.

The next lecture will be at noon on April 4 in the auditorium of the library

The event is free and open to the public.

The final lecture will be on May 2.

The April speaker will be Dr. Eddie M. L. Smith, who is the Mississippi State University Extension county coordinator in Pearl River. He has been with MSU since 2008. In 2014, he was the State Master Gardener Coordinator of the Year. He is also an International Society of Arboriculture certified arborist.

The title of his presentation is “Creating Gardens that Thrive in Summer Heat.” He will provide information on plants that thrive and do well in drought conditions, like much of Mississippi experienced this past year. Landscaping tips to help plants make it through drought conditions will also be covered during the presentation
