Commodores baseball falls to New Hope

The Lafayette Commodores fell 10-8 to New Hope on Wednesday.

Lafayette (15-6) used an eight-run second inning to jump out ahead of New Hope. The Commodores got doubles off the bats of Jack East (2) and Houston Morgan.

East finished the game at the plate going 2-for-3 with two doubles, a run and two RBIs.

New Hope answered in the home half of the frame with two runs of their own making the score 8-2 Lafayette.

Lafayette had Tanner Harris on the mound to start the game. Harris worked 3.2 innings and allowed four runs on five hits with three walks and three strikeouts.

In the bottom of the fourth, New Hope cut into the Commodores lead to 8-4 while scoring two runs.

Nick Kagey came into the game in relief for Lafayette in the fourth and recorded the last out of the inning. He surrendered no runs on a hit.

New Hope scored two runs in the fifth to cut Lafayette’s lead to 8-6.

Lafayette brought Brody Breithaupt to the mound in the fifth. Breithaupt tossed 0.1 inning and allowed two runs on hits with three walks and a strikeout.

The Commodores made the call again to the bullpen for Jake Melton in the fifth. Melton worked an inning and allowed three runs on two hits with a walk and strikeout.

In the sixth, Lafayette brought East to the hill to face New Hope. East threw a 0.2 inning and allowed a run on two hits with no walks and no strikeouts.

New Hope took the lead in the game after scoring four runs in the sixth.

Lafayette returns to the diamond on Friday as they play host to New Hope. The first pitch is set for 7 p.m.
