Oxford defeats Horn Lake 13-1

The Oxford Chargers run-ruled the Horn Lake Eagles by the score of 13-1 on Saturday.

Oxford (15-8) jumped out early on Horn Lake by scoring seven runs in the bottom of the first. The Chargers’ runs were capped off by two doubles in the frame by Brady Stinnett and James Blackwood.

Stinnett finished the game going 1-for-2 with a double, two runs scored and an RBI.

In the second, the Chargers added a run as Ford Wade drove in Carson Schmelzer on a base knock to make the score 8-0.

Oxford’s starter Whit Roady kept Horn Lake off the scoreboard through the first two innings.

The Eagles cut into the Chargers lead with their lone run of the game by plating a run in the third.

Oxford quickly answered with three runs in the bottom of the third on two singles of the bats of Reid Kent and Jack Harper. Schmelzer added a run on a sac fly.

Schmelzer went 2-for-2 at the plate with two runs scored and four RBIs.

Roady worked 4.0 complete innings allowing a run on three hits with two walks and four strikeouts.

Oxford scored their final two runs in the fourth to make it 13-1.

The Chargers brought Jack Hill in to pitch in the fifth as he tossed an inning with no runs on a hit with a walk and three strikeouts.

Oxford travels up to Horn Lake on Monday to take on the Eagles in the second game of the series. The first pitch is set for 6 p.m.
