Commodores clinch 5th straight region title with win over West Point

The Lafayette Commodores defeated West Point by the score of 13-4 Monday night on the road, clinching their fifth straight Region Title.

The Commodores will be the No. 1 seed out of 1-5A when the state playoffs begin next week.

Lafayette (19-6) got its first run of the night on a groundout by Brody Breithaupt that scored Houston Morgan.

In the third inning, the Commodores scored three more runs on a base hit, an error, and a wild pitch to go up 4-0 over West Point.

Lafayette’s Aleck Farmer made it difficult for the West Point sluggers by not allowing a run through the first three innings.

The Commodores’ offense added another run in the fourth on a base knock to center field off the bat of Balin Bishop that scored Foster Crockett. Lafayette took a 5-0 lead over West Point.

Morgan finished the game going 3-for-4 with two doubles and three runs scored.

Lafayette added two more runs in the fifth off the bat of Tanner Harris to go up 7-0.

Farmer threw 5.2 innings and surrendered two runs on five hits with three walks and seven strikeouts.

Lafayette brought Jack East to the mound in the sixth. East worked 1.1 innings and allowed two runs on a hit with a walk and three strikeouts.

In the sixth, Lafayette added four runs.  The Commodores went up 11-0 over West Point.

West Point scored two runs in the sixth on a base hit and a walk.

Lafayette plated their final two runs in the game in the seventh to go up 13-2.

West Point scored their final two runs in the seventh to cut into Lafayette’s advantage to make the score 13-4.

Lafayette returns to the diamond on Tuesday as they play host to Tupelo. The first pitch is set for 7 p.m.
