Oxford Chargers defeat Corinth 7-3

The Oxford Chargers defeated Corinth 7-3 on Tuesday night at home.

Oxford (18-9) got on the scoreboard to open the game in the bottom of the first as Reid Kent scored on a single by Carson Schmelzer to take a 1-0 advantage over Corinth.

Kent finished the game going 2-for-4 with two runs scored.

Oxford sent Jack Hill to the mound to face Corinth. Hill made quick work through the first three innings by not allowing a run.

The Chargers added three runs to their total in the third. Following a Reid Kent single, Brady Stinnett hit a two-run home run to center field. Thomas Rayburn would later score from first on a two out fly ball by James Blackwood that was dropped for an error by Corinth’s left fielder.
In the top of the fourth, Corinth answered with two runs after a lead-off walk was followed by a double and consecutive singles. The Chargers would get out of the jam as Charger shortstop Reid Kent caught a line drive for one out and threw to first to double off a Corinth baserunner. Corinth’s Parker Gray would fly out to left field to end the inning.

Oxford answered with three runs in the bottom of the fourth to go up 7-2 in the frame.

Corinth added its third run of the game in the fifth on a double to center field.

Hill tossed 5.0 innings and allowed three runs on five hits with two walks and a strikeout.

The Chargers brought Josh Scruggs to the mound in the sixth. Scruggs worked 2.0 innings and allowed no runs on a hit with a walk and five strikeouts.

Oxford returns to action on Friday as they take on Corinth on the road. The first pitch is set for 7 p.m.
