Teachers’ workshop to focus on environment education

ABCs of Environmental Education offered June 4-7

A teachers’ workshop in Lafayette County this summer will help teachers learn about the “ABC’s of Environmental Education.”

K-12 teachers interested in learning about natural resources for the classroom and earning continuing education units can sign up by May 30 for the workshop set for June 4-7, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., Tuesday through Friday, at the Lafayette County Extension Service, 70 F. D. “Buddy” East Parkway, Oxford.

Workshop activities will feature classroom curriculum and hands-on activities that include a variety of natural resource issues: anti-litter, Adopt-A-Stream, beekeeping, bird conservation, conservation jeopardy, composting, critters, fish hatchery, forestry-tree ID, plant materials, recycling, soil health, wildlife drawings, wildlife management, water quality and nonpoint source pollution.

Sponsors for the workshop are Itawamba Community College, Lafayette County Soil & Water Conservation District, Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality, Environmental Protection Agency, Mississippi Soil & Water Conservation Commission, North Central Mississippi RC&D Council and MSU Lafayette County Extension Service.
