Susan Bell Treas

Susan Bell Treas, 66, of Jackson, MS (formerly Oxford, MS) passed away January 8, 2024 after an extended battle with kidney disease. She was born April 29, 1957 to Sue Garrett and Charles Treas in Aberdeen, MS.

Susan graduated from Oxford High School in 1976. She continued her studies at Montreat College in North Carolina and The University of Mississippi majoring in biology. She began her lifelong love of Camp Hopewell, Oxford, MS, first as a camper, then Counselor, Lifeguard, and Trip Coordinator for SCUBA, white water rafting and caving trips. She often said that the time spent at Camp Hopewell was some of the most gratifying and happiest of her life.

Susan had a generous, charitable spirit that was present in her career choices of an EMT, restaurant manager, assistant director for the Jackson branch of the YWCA, photographer and printer. She retired while working for U.S. Dept. of Commerce.

Susan is survived by her husband, Malcom Ewing, Jr., and his children that she raised as her own, Tyler (Molly) and Mallory; and Mallory’s children, Alicen and Bella. Also surviving her are her sisters Lynn Noto and Frances Almengual, Frances’s son Scott Hux and his two daughters, Piper and Penny, that brought Susan so much joy.

A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, May 5 at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel at Camp Hopewell. Service will be officiated by the Reverends Wil Howie and Ann Houston Kelly. After the celebration of Susan’s life, there will be a reception at the Green Pavilion. Attire is casual.

The family wishes to thank Transitions Hospice for their care of Susan, especially Anna, Sarah, and Miriam.
