Oxford Chargers take game one of the playoff series against Germantown

The Oxford Chargers defeated the Germantown Mavericks 4-3 on Friday night to take the first game of the 7A playoffs series.

Germantown took a 1-0 advantage in the first inning on a single to center field that scored a run.

The Chargers starter Brady Stinnett kept Germantown off the board through the next three frames.

Through four innings of play, Oxford out hit Germantown 4-3 with hits from Sam Roy (with two), Thomas Rayburn and Jack Harper.

Germantown added to its lead in the fifth by scoring two more runs to make it 3-0.

Oxford got on the scoreboard in the fifth with one out as Roy doubled and came into score on a home run Stinnett to center field.

Oxford tied the game at 3-3 in the sixth, after a base knock by Harper as Brock Siskey came in to run and scored a couple of batters later on an error.

Stinnett worked 7.0 complete innings allowing three runs (one earned) on four hits with three walks and eight strikeouts.

In the bottom of the seventh, Stinnett walked the game off with a solo home run to left field.

Stinnett finished the game going 2-for-4 with two home runs and three RBIs.

Oxford will face Germantown on the road on Saturday for game two of the series with the first pitch set for 7 p.m.
