Oxford takes series opener against Madison Central

The Oxford Chargers defeated Madison Central 5-3 in the opening game of the playoff series.
Oxford (22-10) took a 1-0 lead over Madison Central in the first on a sacrifice fly to left field off the bat of Brady Stinnett.
Oxford gave the ball to Stinnett as the starter and he made quick work of Madison Central through the first three innings on the mound only allowing two hits.
The Chargers extended their advantage in the fourth with two runs as Jack Harper and Reid Kent both got base knocks in the frame. Oxford went up 3-0.
Kent finished the game going 3-for-5 with a triple two runs scored and an RBI.
Madison Central answered in the bottom of the fourth with three runs that knotted the game at 3-3.
Oxford retook the lead in the fifth on a double by Thomas Rayburn to right field as Kent and Brock Siskey scored to make it 5-3.
Stinnett worked 7.0 complete to pick up the win and surrendered three runs (two earned) on seven hits with a walk and five strikeouts.
Oxford and Madison Central return to the diamond on Monday for game two of the series. The first pitch is set for 7 p.m.
