A Thaxton man was killed Tuesday when his vehicle went off the road in Lafayette County.

According to the Mississippi Highway Patrol, at 10:22 a.m. on Tuesday, troopers responded to a crash on Highway 30 in Lafayette County.

A 2000 Dodge Durango, driven by Tommy Gates, 63, of Thaxton, was traveling east on Highway 30 when it left the roadway and collided with a tree.

Gates was pronounced dead at the scene.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation by MHP.
