Lafayette softball falls to Corinth in opening game of the series

The Lafayette Commodores softball team falls to Corinth 7-1 in the opening game of the 5A North Half Championship on Thursday.

Lafayette (25-10) and Corinth were in a pitchers’ duel throughout the first two innings.

The Commodores had Mabry Eason in the circle facing Corinth.

Corinth (21-6) got on the scoreboard first with a run in the third inning to take a 1-0 advantage.

Lafayette answered with their lone run of the game in the fifth inning as Caroline Kelley scored that knotted the game at 1-1.

Lafayette got hits in the game from Jenny Dreher, Tashika Carothers and Eason.

Corinth scored six runs in the sixth inning to win the game 7-1.

Eason worked 6.0 innings to pick up the loss and surrendered seven runs (four earned) on 12 hits with a walk and two strikeouts.

Lafayette and Corinth will play game two of the series on Friday at 6 p.m. at Lafayette.
