Blue Devils compete in 3A state meet
PEARL — The Water Valley track team had four qualifiers head to the MHSAA Class 3A track and field championships Saturday at the Woody Barnett Track & Field Complex on the campus of Pearl High School.
The Blue Devils were not in contention for a state title but did come close to having podium finishers.
Mark Gooch placed fourth in the long jump with an attempt of 20 feet, 8 inches, missing out on the stand by three inches. Deferrion Justice raced in the 110-meter hurdles but stumbled midway through and placed eighth with a time of 18.19 seconds.
Coulter Clement wrapped up the boys events, running in the 3,200 meters and placing sixth with a time of 11 minutes, 44.47 seconds.
Lillian Lindsey was the lone Blue Devil to compete on the girls’ side and raced in two events. Lindsey placed fifth in the 3,200 meters with a time of 13:12.99 and finished sixth in the 1,600 meters with a time of 6:13.63.
