Oxford’s Vaughn secures future, inks with Sewanee

Abbie Vaughn celebrated more than a Class 5A North Half championship Tuesday.

Oxford’s senior tennis player secured her future by signing a scholarship with Sewanee: The University of the South. Vaughn has competed for the Chargers’ varsity team for the last three seasons after moving to Oxford her sophomore season.

“She gets to continue playing the sport she loves, and she gets to do it at the place she always wanted to go,” Oxford coach Louis Nash said. “Abbie is a genuinely tremendous kid who will be a great addition to the Sewanee team and campus.”

Vaughn pairs with Bo Nash to compete in mixed doubles for the Chargers. The team helped Oxford earn another trip to next week’s state finals with a 6-1, 6-1 win in its match Tuesday.

Vaughn is the third Oxford player to sign this year, joining Meridian CC signees Will Swindoll and Callan Shinall.
