A routine checkpoint stop turned into an apprehension as police arrested an Oxford man for possession of a weapon by a felon.

According to Oxford Police, OPD conducted a driver’s license checkpoint on College Hill Road, on December 17 and a stopped a vehicle driven by an Oxford man.

When the man explained to police he did not have a valid drivers license, officers got him out of the car and obtained consent to search the vehicle. In the vehicle, officers found a firearm, and officers also discovered that the man was a convicted felon.

Officers arrested the man, Keyron Pegues, 28, for possession of a weapon by a felon.

He was transported to Lafayette County Detention Center and a Justice Court Judge set his bond at $2,500.

Police arrest Oxford man for second DUI 4th in 4 months

Oxford Police arrested a man who has a suspended license, and four prior DUI 4ths, after crashing his car into a ditch.

A police officer clocked a speeding driver with his radar on Highway 7, according to a police report.

The officer attempted to catch up with the vehicle. When he did, the officer noticed it was in a ditch.

Police identified Martin Simmons, 28 of Oxford, as the driver, and a conducted investigation, which included a blood warrant.

Police found that Simmons has at least three prior DIU convictions, as well as another pending DUI 4^th stemming from an arrest in August.

Simmons was charged with a DUI 4^th, having no insurance, driving with a suspended license, speeding and failing to comply with an officer.

Simmons was transported to Lafayette County Detention Center, and a Justice Court Judge set his bond at $10,000.
