Patricia Armstead Downing

Patricia Armstead Downing, 87, of Houston, Texas, died Sunday, Aug. 23, 2015, at the Houston Hospice Medical Center in Houston, Texas. A graveside service will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. in St. Peter’s Cemetery in Oxford, where Patricia will be buried next to her mother and father. Waller Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Born in Oxford, she spent her childhood and youth in Oxford. She attended Mary Baldwin College in Staunton, Virginia and graduated from the University of Oklahoma. She then became a teacher of English and Spanish in Hobbs, New Mexico. In the early ’50s, she moved to Houston, Texas and for 30 years worked for an accounting firm. Later, she was employed by Pennzoil Oil Company, until her retirement. She was an active member of The First United Methodist Church in Houston, Texas, where she taught Sunday School and sang in the choir. She deeply loved her family.

She is survived by her brother, Carl Seldon of New Orleans, Louisiana, as well as nephews, a niece, gret-nephews and a great-niece, all from New Orleans, Louisiana; and her friend of many years, Dorothy Helen Krohn, who took care of her during her long illness and since her hospitalization rarely left her side.
