Richard Keith Monk, 47, died Thursday, Oct. 1, 2015, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford.

He was born Oct. 11, 1967, in Triangle, Virginia, to Albert Lee and Edith Williamson Monk.

He was a self-employed contractor who enjoyed hard work and helping others. He dearly loved his children, grandchildren and family; and his smile and laughter will be greatly missed.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. today in the Henry Chapel of Seven Oaks Funeral Home in Water Valley, with Brother Virgil Nelson officiating.

Monk is survived by his daughter, Shelby Ray Monk (Chris); his son, Richard Keith (Rachel) Monk Jr. of Fredericksburg, Virginia; two sisters, Deborah Monk Atkinson of Oxford, and Lisa Monk (Ricky) Butler of Stafford, Virginia; four brothers, Ronald Allen Monk Timothy Albert (Bridgette) Monk and Mark Anthony (Sandy) Monk all of Stafford, Virginia, and James Russell (Carrie) Monk of Fredericksburg, Virginia; three grandchildren, Harley, Daimon and Gabrielle; and a granddaughter soon to be born.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sherri McMarty Monk and his brother-in-law, Will Atkinson.
