OXFORD — Lawrence “Larry” Newel King, 90, died Monday, Dec. 21, 2015, at his home in Oxford. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at noon in the chapel of Coleman Funeral Home with Bro. Gary Richardson officiating. Interment will be in the North Oxford Baptist Church cemetery. Visitation will be on Saturday from 10 a.m. until service time at Coleman Funeral Home, which is in charge of arrangements.

Born in Lafayette County, he was a retired electrician. He was a World War II veteran of the United States Navy having served in the American Theater and the Asiatic Theater, which included action in the northern Solomons, Leyte, Western Caroline Operation, Okinawa, Gunto Operation, Gilbert Islands and the initial occupation of Japan. Family was very important to him as evidenced by his 32-year search for his daughter, Marylyn, who he found 18 years ago. He loved dancing every Friday night. He was a faithful member of North Oxford Baptist Church.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Hazel Collins and five brothers, J.B. King, Windy King, Russell King, Claudine King and Marian King.

He is survived by the love of his life for the last 59 years, Ann King of Oxford; daughter Marylyn Roberts of Amesbury, Massachusetts, son Larry Joe King of Collierville, Tennessee, brothers Doyle King of Oxford and Norris King of Bruce; sisters Faye Burgess and Mae Ingram, both of Oxford, and Jackie Meades of Corpus Christi, Texas; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
