Oxford area prep basketball games cancelled due to winter weather
The winter weather arrived and caused havoc with the high school sports calendar this weekend. After moving soccer games up to Thursday, the scheduled basketball games for all three area schools have been cancelled/postponed due to the inclement weather.
Oxford was set to host West Point Friday night for both teams’ region openers but has now been postponed with a makeup date now set for Jan. 17. Oxford was scheduled to travel to Independence on that day but have now pushed those games back to Jan. 18. The boy’s team have scheduled a game for Saturday, playing in the Tangle on the Trail at Pontotoc High School against Velma Jackson at 7 p.m.
Lafayette was hosting New Albany in a non-region game but postponed early Friday morning with a makeup date yet to be announced. The girls’ team, who are currently 14-0, will now also play in the Tangle on the Trail, opening Saturday’s slate of games against Choctaw Central at 11 a.m.
Water Valley’s games at North Panola have been postponed as well and no makeup date set for them.
