Tony Conner is getting a shot at the next level.
The former Ole Miss safety has been invited by the San Francisco 49ers to try out for a roster spot during the team’s rookie minicamp, which runs Friday-Sunday. Conner went undrafted in last week’s NFL Draft.
A projected first-round draft pick at one time, Conner, the former five-star signee out of South Panola, had his collegiate career derailed by a torn meniscus and chipped bone in his right knee during his junior season that required two surgeries. Conner combined for 135 tackles as a freshman and sophomore before tallying just 58 over his final two seasons with the Rebels.
Should Conner earn a contract after the camp, he would be added to the 49ers’ 90-man roster.
“It would be a blessing,” Conner said before the draft. “Everybody wants to make it to the NFL. It really doesn’t matter what round I go in as long as I just get a shot and be able to make it to the NFL.”
