Oxford placed under precautionary boil water notice
The city of Oxford has issued a self-imposed boil water notice for all customers receiving water from the city following a water main break near Highway 6.
The notice is precautionary and extends to customers that live outside the city limits who receive their water from the city of Oxford.
The notice does not apply to the University of Mississippi or other private water associations.
The notice will be in place until at least Tuesday when test results from the Mississippi Department of Health will be available to the city.
“Until the precautionary notice is lifted, customers are advised to boil all water for one minute before using for drinking, cooking, brushing teeth, washing dishes or fruits and vegetables. Do not use ice made from recent tap water,” the notice reads.
Customers are encouraged to visit the City of Oxford website for an interactive map of the areas affected. Customers may also visit the city’s Facebook page or Twitter account for more information.
