Where, how to watch Perseid meteor shower 2016

Published 11:20 am Thursday, August 11, 2016

The Perseids meteor shower is tonight and it promises to be among the biggest astrological shows of the year.

And, the good news is that everybody can watch as long as we don’t have cloudy skies. All you have to do tonight is look up in the sky and have a LOT of patience.

(Seriously on the patience. See instructions below.)

No special equipment is needed tonight (Thursday) to watch the meteor shower.

From NASA on how to watch tonight: “The best way to see the Perseids is to go outside between midnight and dawn on the morning of Aug. 12. Allow about 45 minutes for your eyes to adjust to the dark. Lie on your back and look straight up. Increased activity may also be seen on Aug. 12-13.

For stargazers experiencing cloudy or light-polluted skies, a live broadcast of the Perseid meteor shower will be available via Ustream overnight on Aug. 11-12 and Aug. 12-13, beginning at 10 p.m. EDT.
